Is WooThemes the birth of a new era in Premium Wordpress themes?
Sat, Jul 12, 2008
First up, the Contest Winners will be my next post. I was really busy this weekend but I promise that the next post will be the Winners list.
Now, when I was contacting all the best Wordpress Desingers more than a month for the contest, I had contacted Adii, the man behind Premium News Theme Wordpress themes. He replied, saying that he didn’t want any exposure for that site anymore as he was planning for a change. I have seen PremiumNews theme site for so long from the time the first theme was released, so I was hoping if the change would be good or bad, considering the fact that the PremiumNews theme word was common among bloggers. But, I am pleased to say that the change is good and I think its well deserved.
The Birth of WooThemes

When you start something, you have to have an Idea, a plan as to what you want from your site or project and that is exactly what Adii has accomplished thus far. His main reason for changing PremiumNews theme to WooThemes was none other than “Branding” his business. With the name as PremiumNews theme, he was focusing only on themes which was magazine or News based as a result he was singling out potential buyers who wanted websites in different niches.
Now, with Woothemes he is able to spread his wordpress theme designs across all niches which will thus enable his business to grow much more than it was before. WooThemes now consists of 4 designers namely Adii, Magnus Jepson, Mark Forrester, Eliot Jay Stocks (the latest edition to WooThemes)
The New changes
1. Firstly, all the Previous Premium News themes are available at permanently reduced prices, so whoever thought it was expensive before can purchase them for just $70.
2. A very user-friendly site for WooThemes has been created which itself will attract a lot of visitors.
3. New themes have already been released and they are not News type. So, its a good start.
4. There will be atleast 1 theme released each month, though I feel the number can go upto 2 and 3 as there are 4 designers working on it.
5. A New and Improved Support page which will be used for troubleshooting and helping those who have problems with their themes.
WooThemes Theme Club
This is something different and innovative. We will have to see if this pays off for the designers. Normally, its like you get paid 20% each theme you refer. Now, one has to purchase membership for either 3 or 6 months and pay a flat rate of $150 and $250 for a Single User Subscription or $225 and $375 for a Developer User Subscription.
I am assuming that in 3 months a minimum of 3 themes will be released and hopefully more. So its a bargain really to get 4-5 Latest Wordpress Premium Themes for a price of $150 which earlier would have cost $100 each.
I believe that WooThemes has the potential to do well and grow much better than PremiumNews Theme did. The ThemesClub idea is itself unique and not seen in the Wordpress world yet, so its just a matter of time before we know if this really is the birth of a new era in Wordpress Premium Themes.
So, what does everyone think of their latest themes? Buying any theme anytime soon?
