This was the exact question one of my friends asked me recently. I was totally taken aback by it. Many people have no idea how powerful the internet has become and they think making blogs or sites are just a waste of time. Here is 2 different take on things.

People think starting a blog or site is a waste of time because……

1. Assumptions Kills - I hate people who assume things and make statements based on their false assumptions. It would be what someone would have told them about blogging and over time a wrong impression has been created which at the opportune moment just had to come out.

2. Ignorance is Bliss - A group of people I love talking to. They have no clue whatsoever whats happening around them and go with the flow. If someone says blogging is bad, they think it is true. They don’t by any chance make an attempt to find out the truth.

3. Jealousy - Well, this will be found everywhere. People are jealous of your success and they will do anything to see you go down. They might know the pros of blogging but they wouldn’t want you to gain from it.

4. Inferiority Complex - Typically in India, people rate you as a person from what you do. If you were to say that you earn a living blogging, it doesn’t matter if you earn a million dollars, its not a respectable Full-time job to do. So, some people tend to think blogging is for lame un-intelligent people.

My personal opinion is Stay away from all these kind of people. You don’t want to be surrounded by Negative Energy.

So why do most people still blog if some people think that its a waste of time. I hope the above group of people read what I mention below.

1. Get your voice heard - Most people blogging, blog for a reason which is to send a message across to a large number of people around the world and what better platform to do it than blogging.

2. Personal Reasons - Some people “Feel at Home” when they blog. They reveal a lot about their personality through their blogs as they feel more comfortable interacting with people that way.

3. Great Pastime - What better pastime is there than to blog about your life, your daily experiences and also to read about what other bloggers have to talk about.

4. Blogging for Money - All the people who made money blogging did so because they didn’t intend to mint cash. They started their blog as a personal, business or an informative one and monetized it only when they saw good traffic. Nowadays, people tend to monetize their blogs first and create content as second fiddle.

5. Build-up your Reputation - By having a quality content blog, you will be well respected by your peers as everyone knows its difficult to produce consistent unique content. Blogging can help in growing a good reputation for yourself in the blogoshpere and will be an important asset in anything you do in the real world.

I think its not a waste of time. I normally tell everyone that if you have few hours to kill daily, no harm in starting a blog.
