How “Bold” is the new Blackberry?
Mon, May 26, 2008
Sometime back I wrote a post if Samsung’s Instinct could kill the iPhone. So far nothing has happened. Apple stores seem to stop refilling their shops with the Apple iPhone which increases the hype around the iPhone 3G model which will be out sometime around June.

So we have all the Mobile Phone makers trying to beat the iPhone while a more quieter adversary in the form of the Blackberry has almost little to do to prove that its the best Smartphone around. Blackberry is normally targeted at Business Executives or those who want more from their phones in terms of being a workhorse and a Blackberry does exactly that. One can accomplish a lot using a Blackberry and thats exactly why the makers of this Smartphone, Research in Motion (RIM) based in Canada are striving to do.
Normally, when a phone maker releases a new model, people tend to expect a lot in terms of design, power, features etc. But somehow, when a new Blackberry model is about to release, people know exactly what to expect which is a bit different from the previous model.
The new Blackberry Bold also called the Blackberry 9000 seems to have got a iPhone like cool finish, something no Blackberry has undergone so far as the main focus was on productive features of the phone rather than design. As you can see from the picture above, the phone looks really neat. Lots of teenagers will really have a liking for this phone, now that this being the first Blackberry to offer 3G (HSDPA) internet in addition to the already existing e-mail service.
RIM says that this phone’s screen is the most vivid display it has ever used. It has a 480×320 resolution with almost twice the pixels on a Blackberry Curve. Just imagine how crystal clear and Bold will images be on this phone. Being the first Blackberry to offer 3G and 802.11 a/b/g Wi-Fi gives this phone an edge over its predecessors. There is a scroll wheel which can be used to browse full page sites in html or mobile view.
Another important feature the Blackberry Bold has which even the iPhone doesn’t have is GPS navigation facility. An integrated 2-megapixel camera with 5x zoom can capture video and high-quality stills. 1gb of internal storage is already available which can be expanded to 16gb via microSHDC cards supported by this phone.
The Blackberry Bold even after boasting its new features will still be a robust powerhouse carrying all the features from the previous models. RIM has said that the phone will release on AT&T this summer and the price should be around $300 and $500.
So what do you think? Will you buy a Smartphone having 3G and GPS features or stick with the more crowd pulling iPhone 3G model?
