Are people blogging just to make money?
Tue, Apr 22, 2008

I believe the answer is Yes. There are blogs where people talk about how much they earn per month and what they did to earn that much etc. There are stupid people who actually go to those blogs thinking they can gain knowledge on things they have no clue about and its more like ‘If he can do it, so can I’. But just think for a minute, if that person has a trade secret of earning good money why would he share it with everyone, because maybe if he does then he might end up getting nothing then.
There are absolutely no short-cuts to success. In the last few months, I have seen a huge growth of blogs on the net. Lots of people blogging on so many things even they have no idea about. Ah yes, the word ‘Idea’. Most people don’t have any idea behind their blog. Let me just categorize people who blog into few groups.
- People who blog just for the sake of it. Just to show others they can also blog and brag about it
- Those who blog for fun. They think they love blogging, they have lots of enthusiasm for it, but dont exactly know what to blog about.
- The most interesting group of people who blog just to make money. They see lots of people blogging around them, and start blogging hoping that one day they can earn a few thousand a month. Though they forget about the most important thing which is knowledge about what your talking about. If your blogging on something you don’t anything about and thinking you can earn money from it just cos someone else has similar niche blog and earning big bucks, sorry to say, your blog is doomed.
- Lastly, the smartest of the lot, who know exactly what they are doing, who focus on their content using their knowledge to the full potential and putting in lots of hard work.
I know many people who have everything necessary to make a good successful blog, but their main question to me is, “What should I blog about?”. People think that the Internet is a saturated place now, and the time to start a blog is over. I would never agree to that. An Idea can change anything and everything. If you think so hard to get an idea, most probably you won’t get any. Ideas will hit you when you least expect it. My good friend Mert Erkal wrote a post yesterday on how to get ideas to blog when your are stuck on what to blog about. I suggest everyone to read it as it gives a good insight to blogging.
If you want to get atleast some success blogging, then mind your own business. Don’t get deterred by the fact that some person you know who you think is less intelligent than you is doing really well. Infact you should imagine you would earn zilch by blogging. Don’t ever start a blog just to earn money unless of course you have done it before. Blogs are like trees, they take time to grow, and if the roots are strong, then they will grow big and strong and reap the right results. But remember the most important ingredients for a blog are Content, Time, Patience and Hard Work.

I agree, too many people are starting a blog with the goal of making money.
The problem is that they don’t understand you need to put some work and effort into your project and you need to like what you are doing. When you communicate in a post, people can feel if your genuine.
The goal should be traffic, and too generate any, you need to write on interesting topics.
Nice post

Yes it is true that a lot of people blog to make money and what not when you have bloggers like Problogger who makes over $100,000 a year, and his blog is all about how to make money blogging.

Of course there are bloggers doing it just to make money. If there weren’t there would be a lot more bogs like my own, pure fun, laughter and enjoyment.
No one does anything for the hell of it and if you see ads on a blog, then they are doing it for money.
The blogs where people talk about making money and list how much they make are all glitz and glamor and usually completely worthless and boring. Like a corny and crappy ad on Television, you get that but wait…there’s more…feeling from the whole lot.
