Yes people you heard it right. While Microsoft and Sony going at it with each other trying to prove whose console is better and who beat whom for the sales in the month of March, a silent competitor Nintendo sold more units of Wii than Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PS3 combined.
While Microsoft sold 262,000 Xbox 360 units and Sony sold 257,000 PlayStation 3 systems, Nintendo sold a staggering 721,000 units Wii units according to the stats released by NPD, a marketing research firm. There has been a increase of 57% in US sales alone for the Video games market even though the economy has gone down a bit. Seems like the bogged down economy has no effect on the Gaming market.
Microsoft seemed to have some supply problem due to which their sales weren’t high enough to beat Wii sales but was good enough to just beat PS3 sales. Microsoft still believes that more people will buy the Xbox 360 because of the extra features it provides as compared with PS3. Gamers playing games on the Xbox 360 have access to online mulitpayer options as well as exclusive downloadable content. Some even feel that for some games available on both consoles, the Xbox has a much better frame rate than the PS3.
Despite the sad demise of the HD DVD, Microsoft hopes that their loyal buyer base will only increase over the next few months. With majority of the people going for the PS3 which can play the Blu-Ray disc, many people will be confused as to which console they should go for. So which one would you buy now?
